Bruce was elected to Anacortes City Council in November of 2017. In his first term, he has led the City’s effort to build Access Anacortes, our community-owned fiber optic Internet service. Bruce has also championed density and affordability incentives in the City’s development regulations. He has worked to reduce the City’s carbon footprint and preserve and protect our beautiful local environment.

Bruce was born and raised in Skagit County. He graduated from Mount Vernon high school, and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Washington. Since graduating, he has built a 24-year career in the tech industry. Professionally, he is a Principle Network Architect for Cisco Systems, working with companies that operate some of the largest and most complex data networks in the world.

Bruce and his family have lived in Anacortes since 2013. Prior to serving on City Council, Bruce was appointed to the Mayor’s Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC), which worked throughout 2014 and 2015 to help shape the vision for the City’s 2016 Comprehensive Plan. During this time, Bruce also volunteered as a technology consultant to the City, and helped educate elected officials and staff on the technologies and operational structures needed to build and operate a fiber optic network.

Bruce’s wife Jill, originally from Denver, Colorado, is an interior designer and artist. Their daughter Skyler is an AHS volleyball player, and is looking forward to her senior year this fall.
